With the publication of the general regulation 2022, the Fise has introduced new indications regarding the safety of riders. In particular, the obligation for all under 18s when they ride a horse to wear a protective cap fastened, while for other riders the obligation is introduced when they perform jumping activities.
Choosing the right cap is in any case a question on which our safety depends above all and therefore it is a good idea to always wear it.
First of all, we must therefore make sure that the cap we are about to buy has passed the approval tests required by the regulations. Currently the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) adopts the CE VG1 regulation and has made it mandatory for all equestrian disciplines. All national Federations have also adapted to these standards. The tests to which the caps for approval are subjected are particularly stringent and are carried out through impact and pressure tests that reproduce both the effects of falls and those of impacts with the horse’s hooves.

How to try the cap
Tattini caps are available in various sizes, from 52 to 60 cm (head circumference). When we try on the cap, we must first put it on the correct way: we fasten the chin strap, leaving space for a finger. Let us always remember this precaution. A badly laced cap does no good!
Some caps have a back wheel mounted on a 5-position headband to precisely adjust the size. When we try on the cap, we tilt our head back and forth and to the side: the cap must stay in place
Once the cap is worn, it must fit like a glove, not to put pressure on any particular point but to be adherent to our head. By tilting the head back and forth and to the side, the cap should not move and remain in place.
We always wear it when we ride but also when we train the horse with the launging rein!
